Mordheim 2019

Hello!

It has been a crazy while, and I’m terribly sorry for that!

Mordheim 2019 happened this weekend in Helsinki, and I cannot say enough how grateful I am to have been invited to take part of this event. I met most of my hobby heroes there, and they are as kind as they are brilliant!..

As most of my recent work can already be seen online, mostly on the fantastic Echoes of Imperium Blog, i thought it was time to show it here!

First is my warband, the Church of the Ever Burning Saint.

I wrote a small atmospheric thing about them for Echoes of Imperium, and i’m just copying it here.

Oh Dear Father,

Forgive me for I have sinned.

I kept my doubts for me, when I knew I had to confess to the Mother Alke.

I fear that it’s too late now, and that the doubts will spread, that madness will reach us all, and that the hope that faith bought us will turn to cinder.

It all started during the Night of the Remembering. Twenty years passed since your judgment cleansed the city. During this time, we made sure that Your Will was made real, and we kept spreading the Holy Fire to the unfaithful and the corrupted.

Each year at the same date, Mother Elfriede gathered the sisters in the nave of the great cathedral, at the bosom of the Rock, and we prayed for another sign from You.

But this year, we had an answer.

Oh dear Father tell me that the answer came from you.

Is this Silent Knight a warrior you sent to guide us? Why sending her to us, but not allowing her to speak to us? Why did she choose Mother Ilse?

We know that the Knight spoke to her before she commit suicide.

What truth was so terrible that she had to renounce her oath to You?

She stayed confined in her room for two weeks with this Knight. When we heard the cries, it was too late.

We found Mother in her chamber Ilse her wrist cut, crying in despair that she wanted to die, shouting the most sacrilegious words to You, who would not let her go.

Such sins could not be forgiven, and in the morning, at the top of the cliff overlooking the ashes of Mordheim, the Silent Knight standing calm next to the Sister Rosamund, the executioner, we gave her body to the Flames, hoping that her soul would be purified.

She burnt for seven days, screaming, crying, desecrating, but never dying. And for seven days, the Silent Knight stood still at her side.

She is still burning now, and the Knight is still at her sides.

But she is serene.

Such signs could not be ignored, and even if most of the sisters think that her simple existence is sacrilegious, some of us followed her and the Silent Knight when the pyre collapsed and they went down into the City.

We follow her now, as she sets the ruins on fire. We think she is looking for something, or someone.

But I fear that the signs we are following are not yours, Dear Father.

I fear that you are not listening.

And I wonder, who is answering my prayers?

And i did a board for the occasion.

I first wanted to make a full board, with multiple layers and atmospheres, but realised a few months into the making that It was way too impractical to transport it to Helsinki with my small budget. So i started another one, as a project that seems like the natural thing to follow my travel boxes. I found a small travel trunk, cut cut a side and added hinges so it would open a bit more, and started the work.

Here are the WIPs, and the box finished:

I did a silly animation during the progress, to show the different step i took to make it. I’ll make another one with the box finished these next few days.

Please follow #mordheim2019 on Instagram to see the amazing work the team made for the weekend!

Thank you for staying here!

A box and two heroes.

Two updates in 4 days, what is wrong with me?

Well, i’m making stuff these days.

First, i’ve been contacted by the facebook admins of the french Inquisitorium equivalent and asked if i could build a box as a reward for a challenge that happens there at the moment. No necessities, except that it should be able to contain a couple of miniatures.

As for the recent small box, i set a personal challenge to try to match my idea of the blanchian palette – but with some blue because i like blue. I’m getting happier with it, but still wondering if i should try it on the next board.. Mmh..

Then, for no real reason other than i had a few ideas for the new Nighthaunts miniatures, i started making a small Stormcast army. I’m only 6 miniatures in and already feeling that i had too much, so i’ll take it really slowly i think. But here’s a knight incantor i’m kind of happy with. Nothing sophisticate.

Finally, i brought an old miniature at a painting evening at a friend’s, and managed to finish it with just a few hours more on another evening. Here again, i tried a more earthy palette. He has a few friend i’ll need to paint too.

That’s it for now, thank you for passing by!

Fyreslayers

Hello!

A friend recently purchased the Shadespire box and convinced me to try a game. It was a nice occasion to try to build a few Fyreslayers, a faction i like a lot, without really knowing why. I guess i like what they could be, and so i tried to join the idea i have of them for the Chosen Axes box.

My first idea was to give them key holes instead of faces, as they are carrying giant key axes, but my skills with greenstuff weren’t enough to match the idea. So i used a circle from a plastic tube on their cut faces, and filled the mess with greenstuff. Voilà!

I changed my website a bit, and put my instagram page on the front so the new things can come first. Do not hesitate if you have any opinion on the subject, i am in no way a web designer!

Thanks you for passing by!

Silver Tower: Heroes and WIP

Hi there!

Here’s the rest of the cast of the Silver Tower, and some more things.

I kept the heroes mainly as they were, with a few minor tweaks with the Dwarf’s torch, and the Dark Elf chest plate. Only the Warpriest isn’t here in his original incarnation. I think the mini is too heroic for a mere human. Even if the setting isn’t the same as the Old World, i can’t imagine a human in Warhammer being sane and healthy. So i made one from scratch. I also like that he’s a lot smaller than all the other heroes. It make their huge size more obvious!

Baraelf Dwaelf Eterpriest

And this are some more character i wanted to make. The necromancer is a favorite of mine since i spent a lot of time in front of Diablo 2 when i was younger, so i had to make one. The Wight King was an obvious companion for him!

Necro1 Necro2 Necro3 Necro4King1 King2 King3 King4

The Chaos Lord was a thing i wanted to make for some time also. I always loved Archaon’s story and miniatures. The last one is gorgeous, but i think he kind of disappear behind the huge three headed monster. So i did my own Archaon-like Lord. The base mini is really awesome, and is a pleasure to built. It was also the first attempt to change a miniature more with greenstuff than with kit bashing.

The Beastman is another favorite of mine, inspired by the illustration of Morghur in the old army book. Here again, i find his story fascinating, but didn’t really liked the miniature. I saw on the internet some doing their own version of him, so i tried the same. I think i never spent so much time sculpting things than on this one, and i rather enjoyed it, even if it’s a long process!

And lastly is a Skaven Greyseer from a long time ago, when we wanted to play standard Warhammer battles. We didn’t went as far in than with 40k, but i’m still hoping to convince some friends to try Age of Sigmar!

Thank you for passing by! Take care!

Silver Tower : Foes

Hello!

Once again some time i didn’t show anything here. I’ve been active, but not in a really public way, and i tried to come back on my sculpture things you can see somewhere on my website.

So recently the Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower was released, and i thought that it might be the kind of game i could like. We tried a first adventure, and finally, i guess it is a game i’ve been waiting for a long time! I don’t have a lot of experience in board games or miniature games even, but the cooperative adventures of the Silver Tower really fit my non-competitive habit. I really hope there will be more adventures, with undead, other Chaos gods and more gorgeous miniatures!

The only thing that makes me sad is that there is – obviously – no Mechanicum themes, and that it doesn’t encourage any scenery madness! But it got me thinking about my ‘perfect’ game, with the right amount of liberty and simplicity and cooperation. Sometimes maybe..

So for now, here are the foes of the Silver Tower. I painted them quite quickly and roughly, and did minor tweaks in order to avoid two similar models. Nothing fancy, but i’ll show some more interesting things, hopefully.

I have to point some blogs that i think did a really good job at making the tower’s inhabitants positively scary: Big Boss Red Skull’s and WilhelMiniatures’. If you’re looking for inspiration, go there! And the rest of their blog is just as brilliant.

Thank you for the visit!
