Mordheim 2019

Hello!

It has been a crazy while, and I’m terribly sorry for that!

Mordheim 2019 happened this weekend in Helsinki, and I cannot say enough how grateful I am to have been invited to take part of this event. I met most of my hobby heroes there, and they are as kind as they are brilliant!..

As most of my recent work can already be seen online, mostly on the fantastic Echoes of Imperium Blog, i thought it was time to show it here!

First is my warband, the Church of the Ever Burning Saint.

I wrote a small atmospheric thing about them for Echoes of Imperium, and i’m just copying it here.

Oh Dear Father,

Forgive me for I have sinned.

I kept my doubts for me, when I knew I had to confess to the Mother Alke.

I fear that it’s too late now, and that the doubts will spread, that madness will reach us all, and that the hope that faith bought us will turn to cinder.

It all started during the Night of the Remembering. Twenty years passed since your judgment cleansed the city. During this time, we made sure that Your Will was made real, and we kept spreading the Holy Fire to the unfaithful and the corrupted.

Each year at the same date, Mother Elfriede gathered the sisters in the nave of the great cathedral, at the bosom of the Rock, and we prayed for another sign from You.

But this year, we had an answer.

Oh dear Father tell me that the answer came from you.

Is this Silent Knight a warrior you sent to guide us? Why sending her to us, but not allowing her to speak to us? Why did she choose Mother Ilse?

We know that the Knight spoke to her before she commit suicide.

What truth was so terrible that she had to renounce her oath to You?

She stayed confined in her room for two weeks with this Knight. When we heard the cries, it was too late.

We found Mother in her chamber Ilse her wrist cut, crying in despair that she wanted to die, shouting the most sacrilegious words to You, who would not let her go.

Such sins could not be forgiven, and in the morning, at the top of the cliff overlooking the ashes of Mordheim, the Silent Knight standing calm next to the Sister Rosamund, the executioner, we gave her body to the Flames, hoping that her soul would be purified.

She burnt for seven days, screaming, crying, desecrating, but never dying. And for seven days, the Silent Knight stood still at her side.

She is still burning now, and the Knight is still at her sides.

But she is serene.

Such signs could not be ignored, and even if most of the sisters think that her simple existence is sacrilegious, some of us followed her and the Silent Knight when the pyre collapsed and they went down into the City.

We follow her now, as she sets the ruins on fire. We think she is looking for something, or someone.

But I fear that the signs we are following are not yours, Dear Father.

I fear that you are not listening.

And I wonder, who is answering my prayers?

And i did a board for the occasion.

I first wanted to make a full board, with multiple layers and atmospheres, but realised a few months into the making that It was way too impractical to transport it to Helsinki with my small budget. So i started another one, as a project that seems like the natural thing to follow my travel boxes. I found a small travel trunk, cut cut a side and added hinges so it would open a bit more, and started the work.

Here are the WIPs, and the box finished:

I did a silly animation during the progress, to show the different step i took to make it. I’ll make another one with the box finished these next few days.

Please follow #mordheim2019 on Instagram to see the amazing work the team made for the weekend!

Thank you for staying here!

Nico

Trying to keep up with the updates?

Hello here,

Once again it has been sometime, i’m just not good at updating the news!

First of all, you might have seen a few of my models on the fantastic blog Echoes of Imperium. It’s really amazing to me to work on this event with some of the very people that inspired me to try my own creative corner of miniatures! Thank you again for bringing me into it!

I totally recommend that you follow #mordheim2019 on instagram and Echoes of Imperium’s blog for the updates!

Here are some of the miniatures i’ve been working on for the project. Still some work to do on a few of them, and i’m slowly working on some other characters, and some other cool things!

I went last year to my first miniature event, where i had some tables to show my two boards and my miniatures. It was a really nice experience, had the opportunity to meet with kind and passionate people, and to work on a little box i already showed on instagram

In the last days of 2018, Christof Keil  did a long journey to visit me at my place, and we had a miniature exchange for the occasion. I’ll show the mini Christof gave me once i did some work on it – with his approval of course! Here’s the box i made for him.

So here it is for the new from these past months. I’m working on a few different things at the moment, and having too much fun to take good pictures for now (also i’m lazy). But i’ll once again try to update a bit more here.

Cheers!

Lots of news!

Finally!

I’ve been away from here, without any real reason for that. A bit overwhelmed i guess. But i have a lot to show and talk about!

The first thing is probably old news now, but there is a fanzine coming that will focus on the Blanchitsu side of the hobby, and i’m flattered to have a few things of mine inside! It’s called 28, and will be available for free online on the website, and there is a Facebook page and an Instagram. (Front artwork by the amazing Pascal Blanché)

The next sentence might be funny. I mentioned the next thing in another thing i forgot to mention here.. You’re still with me? So the brilliant Greenstuff Gretchin sculpted a fantastic miniature based of a drawing of mine from last year (thank you again so much!)

And i mentioned it in an interview for a miniature painting blog, Chestnut Ink , where i ramble about miniatures and stuff! They have a lot of tutorial and an amazing level in painting!..

This summer, mr Dark_Tech_ suggested a miniature challenge between both of us, on the theme of the wasteland merchant. I obviously needed to make a box for them, and tried something different by making it horizontal. It started being a bad idea when i made the stairs, as when the box is closed, the stairs enter the box, and take the space the mini would need.. So i’m still learning!.. Here are the Wips and the things done. I’m glad on how they turned out, a bit more colourful than what i’m used to, and i didn’t realized i missed painting miniatures that much. It has been a while!

Then, i finished two miniature to go along with my ever Expanding Exploratorii choir. The one with the metal techpriest was one of the first miniature i started with the knowledge of inq28. I just modified it a bit more with cables and electro-priests stuff.

And i had to make a group picture in situ! (well three pictures)

In another realm, i’ve been kindly invited to the Mordheim 2019 event in Helsinki, so there is going to be a few weird things around i hope! Thank you for bringing me on board!

Last but not least, i just went to my usual miniature shop today, to grab the new White Dwarf, and a few miniatures of mine are featured in my favourite article! Thanks a lot to the White Dwarf team and to Mr Blanche for making this dream real! (I sound calm here but i was shaking and smiling a lot today!)

Hopefully the next update will arrive a bit sooner than next year! During that time, if you come to visit the small Swiss village of Gruyère (and you should because the fantastic H.R.Giger’s musuem is there) make a small 200m detour and check my sculpture exhibition starting the 28th September! And if you’re in Yverdon for the Unidé miniature convention on the 20th October, come say hello! I’ll be there with some miniatures and scenery! (But i’m terribly shy so sorry for that..)

Wish you all many beautiful things!

Ex Profundis, gangers and two invitationals.

Hello!

Here is some new stuff.

Firstly, my Age of Sigmar ramblings where featured on the fantastic Ex Profundis blog, thanks to Bruticus! It’s a real honor to see my things on the same page as such brilliant minds. I loved taking this moody pictures of a fictive game and seeing them in huge size with a beautiful layout! Thank you for this opportunity! And i think i’ll stick with big pictures for now! (You can click on the picture, it works!)

Next, i showed these guys on the Inquisitorium Facebook page. They are a failed attempt to participate to the Iron Sleet Invitational. They are the Whisper’s Will, a specialist squad from feudal world, sent to fight in some war at the other end of the galaxy, considered heroes because they didn’t die yet. In my mind, their equipment is used in toxic swamps, the candles setting the gases on fire so the rest of the army can advance with fewer risks.

WhispersWill1

Here a small piece of narrative I wrote on them.

___

When they came from the sky, they burned our priests and told us that our gods were false, blasphemies against the only true god. A half dead god somewhere in the stars. I never met Him, but they say that He’s still protecting us.

I’m the only survivor of my village now. After the king was trapped in a screaming machine, most of us had to join His army or join the priesthood in the pire forest.

Four mates from my regiment survived our first battle. Did we lose? Did we win? After that, they gave us medals and we spoke to a bold man with too many disturbing eyes, and my head is full of someone else’s thoughts now. I don’t remember the battle.

I don’t know where are all the others, from the other villages. I guess they were send to fight in His name somewhere.

Now they say that we are experienced enough to serve as example for the new ones, but i have no clue as to were we are, and why we do what we do. Since we left our planet, nothing seems to mean anything anymore. There are too many stars, and they are too close to each other. There are too many screaming priests, and we have to scream with them if we want to live to see the next battle. I hope that the Emperor protects, as we’ve learn to say, because i’m terrified.

___

Here are a few civilians for the Nestorian Infestation campaign that will happen this year, initiated by Bigbossredskullz and WilhelMiniatures – if i’m correct, hope so!.. Nothing too big or scary as i really thought them as part of the anonymous crowd at the back of the pictures.

And here is my gang for necromunda. I have a few ideas of narratives and settings for them, that may end in a new board game at some point. I’ll come back on this when they are painted! I started working on them with a few sketches i show here also. I didn’t have plans for the big one, but it kind of happened after some time wandering on art station and seeing crazy artworks! That kind of things makes me want to be better at drawing, waaaay better! I’m also inspired a lot by Vince Michael amazing cyberpunk work, you have to check it!

Finally, i realized i’m less active in blogs and forum. The Facebook groups and instagram community makes it too easy for me to hide behind a shy « like » and a small comment, and the guilt of not being active makes it difficult to try being active again, if you see what i mean! Well, anyway, i’m sorry for my absence in that area!..

Thank you for passing by and i wish you all many good things!

A warband and two boxes

Hi here!

It’s been a while since the last update but here are the last things i’ve been working on.

Firstly, a sylvaneth warband to try the Aos Skirmish. We still have to try our first game of Aos, but i hope this will be a nice entry ticket. I have the rest of the battalion to work on later.. I’m a bit late after all the branchitsu madness around aos28, but here they are. I’ll make more individual photos once they are painted. I found a bit hard to be original with this few. So many brilliant things have been already done. And i’m still asking myself a bit about the sylvaneth civilisation, their level of technology and individualism. There’s not a lot about this in the army book, i hope there will be a bit more in the future!

Next is a thing i thought a lot about considering i don’t play that much anymore, but enjoy building things. Following the travel boxes i made earlier this year, i made a more detailed one, maybe more like a piece of scenery or a diorama of the inside of an imperial building. The floor is magnetic again, so it can be used to move a few miniatures around, and there is a button behind the box to turn a little light on. So it’s a kind of decorative thing i guess?

This is the second one i made just after the wooden box. I tried something smaller, and thought about it as the relic boxes the miniatures often carry around. So it’s a box, with a cyborg corpse reliquary inside.

And since i really enjoyed doing those, i think i’m going to make a few more!

And finally, Bigbossredskulls recently published a blog post with a few of my drawing inspired by his tzeenchian warbands! This hobby exchange saw this fantastic miniature take a place in my Warhammer gallery on the wall! Thank you! (Be sure to check his blog, his work is crazy creative!)

The Crawling Tumor – WIP

While i’m feeding upon the creativity of the Dark Age of Sigmar community initiated by Bruticus, i made a few miniatures to go with my Beastman Chaman. I’m still uncertain about some of them, and some other are still on the shelf waiting to have a few better ideas, or more appropriate groupe to walk by. And strangely enough, there is not that much beastmen for now.. I hope to change that once i have a suitable idea.. For now, here are some of them! And for an unbelievable thing, i even made a few narrative things i’ll post once they’re painted!..

Have a nice weekend!

RadScavengers and tutorial..

Hello!

I finished the two wasteland wanderers,i just changed the long legged one a bit, going back to the first idea i had of the gigantic rifle.. I often like to not represent obvious weapons on some miniatures, but the silhouette here was to good to not choose this one!.. Again, the colors are the same as always.. I might wanna be more adventurous at some point, maybe!..

And again, a few shot of them in situ.

And finally, following a question i was asked on a forum, and a strange idea that it might be interesting, i did a video of the painting of the big one.. I don’t know a lot about video, and surely don’t know how to paint under a camera! If you have any feedback, feel free!

Hope you find it interesting!.. Have a nice week!

Little boxes and small trip.

This is a small update for two little boxes i made to move my minis form some place to another in a cool way. I saw things like this around the internet, and always thought that it was a brilliant idea – if i find some links back, i’ll update the post. And in the same movement, i’ll use this boxes this weekend for a trip to the Warhammer World i was thinking about for a long time. The Pilgrym exhibition there is a perfect excuse, if i needed any! Maybe i’ll have the opportunity to meet some of you there? Let me know if that would be the case!

For now, here are the boxes in some Wip stages and with the miniatures in them. There should soon be an update on the Many Faces of the Vox Populii thing i guess..

Silver Tower: Heroes and WIP

Hi there!

Here’s the rest of the cast of the Silver Tower, and some more things.

I kept the heroes mainly as they were, with a few minor tweaks with the Dwarf’s torch, and the Dark Elf chest plate. Only the Warpriest isn’t here in his original incarnation. I think the mini is too heroic for a mere human. Even if the setting isn’t the same as the Old World, i can’t imagine a human in Warhammer being sane and healthy. So i made one from scratch. I also like that he’s a lot smaller than all the other heroes. It make their huge size more obvious!

Baraelf Dwaelf Eterpriest

And this are some more character i wanted to make. The necromancer is a favorite of mine since i spent a lot of time in front of Diablo 2 when i was younger, so i had to make one. The Wight King was an obvious companion for him!

Necro1 Necro2 Necro3 Necro4King1 King2 King3 King4

The Chaos Lord was a thing i wanted to make for some time also. I always loved Archaon’s story and miniatures. The last one is gorgeous, but i think he kind of disappear behind the huge three headed monster. So i did my own Archaon-like Lord. The base mini is really awesome, and is a pleasure to built. It was also the first attempt to change a miniature more with greenstuff than with kit bashing.

Chaos1 Chaos2 Chaos3

The Beastman is another favorite of mine, inspired by the illustration of Morghur in the old army book. Here again, i find his story fascinating, but didn’t really liked the miniature. I saw on the internet some doing their own version of him, so i tried the same. I think i never spent so much time sculpting things than on this one, and i rather enjoyed it, even if it’s a long process!

Morghur1 Morghur2 Morghur3 Morghur4

And lastly is a Skaven Greyseer from a long time ago, when we wanted to play standard Warhammer battles. We didn’t went as far in than with 40k, but i’m still hoping to convince some friends to try Age of Sigmar!

Skaven1 Skaven2

Thank you for passing by! Take care!

Civilians and dwarves.

Here are some other ones i’ve been thinking about for some time.

I wanted to make these little dwarves for some time, as i really liked the illustrations in one of the 40k rulebook – i never remember which book is which edition – and i think they really participate of the atmosphere. Hiding in the background, marking skulls or being just weird. So here are 5 of them.

Dwarves1.1 Dwarves1.2 Dwarves1.3 Dwarves1.4

And these are more common citizens of the hive city. I tried to make them a little weird also. I don’t think anyone truly sane could survive in such a universe.. The hard thing with these guys, as for the dwarves, was to use arms without any weapon. Most of the arms i have in my bit box used to hold weapon, so i have to make them hold something, interesting, credible but not too important.. That’s why i love the ghouls arms. Just open hands. So great!

Civils1.1 Civils1.2 Civils1.3 Civils1.4 Civils1.5 Civils1.6

Hope you like them. Have a good evening!
